Whilst undertaking her artistic education, Denise began designing images for crystal and glassware. She started the venture at St. Nicholas' Market, Galway where her elegant designs quickly became a popular choice as gift and interior ware in the city. Over a period of 3 years the business went from strength to strength and in 2002, Denise opened Art Essence Studio and Gallery in the heart of Galway. Late last year, ten years after leaving college, she decided to refocus her efforts and began cutting down her glasswork to commission-only pieces. This gave her time to concentrate on her fine art and to try something she had been considering for a while – teaching. As well as her ongoing classes, Denise also holds a series of workshops, including one on glasswork  and a number of summer art sessions.

“I had a lot of requests from customers for classes and workshops and especially with the recession, or what I like to call the global rebalancing coming in, I felt it was a good time. I started in September and it has been a huge success. I get as much from my students as they get from me. They remind me of simple things, like the fact that I like watercolours, and inspire me in my own work. To be a practising artist and a teacher is an ideal situation.”
